I am a novice. I watched some tutorial videos on this site and jotted some notes. I was all set to order a bunch of resources but I wanted to ask some one who knows more than me what books they would recommend to a beginner user. I don't want to get over my head. I am not sure if this is the place to ask, but I thought I would give it a shot. What would you recommend?

This is what I had in the card. What would you add? What would you delete (if any)?

ESV Bible (Need To Have This, Because This Will Be My Main Reading Bible)
King James w/ Strongs
The Message
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
Treasury Of Scriptural Knowledge

I would recommend a good commentary. Some of the commentaries get extremely deep. So, just starting out I suggest McGee Thru the Bible. It has good explanations, is in plain language, and often has a little story or practical applications. It reminds me of sitting on the porch listening to my grandad.

This is a great start, and I can also recommend that you get a good commentary. There are so many to choose from, though, and different styles, it's hard to recommend one.

If you like older, KJV-style writing, you might be a fan of Matthew Henry (MHC). A more modern commentary that's really good for historical background is IVP (Intervarsity Press Bible Background Commentary.) If you like the style of Bible with notes at the bottom (ala "Study Bibles") we have many options: MAC (MacArthur Study Bible), NSB (Nelson Study Bible), REFSB (ReformationStudy Bible), NIVSB (NIV Study Bible), etc.

Lots of choices!
