Crashes when adding a note

I am having problem with the software crashing when I add a note. When I am done the program shuts off. Do I need to update and if so , how do I update the software ?

If you update to the latest Apple iOS, this problem will go away. To update, just plug your device into iTunes and follow the instructions on the screen to update to 4.2.1.
