Hi there,

I have NASS the NASB with Strongs numbers, TGD Thayer's Greek Definitions, and BDB Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Definitions.

Is there any way to navigate directly from the Stongs number in NASS to the appropriate dictionary entry in TGD or BDB?

If not, is it planned soon? I think this is a fairly obvious requirement?

many thanks in anticipation,

Mark

4.0 has this feature.  Now if Apple would just approve it so you can get it in your hands!

With 4.0, if you have TGD, BDB, or KJC installed, those will show up as links in the current strongs definition.  Of course, BDB will only show up for Old Testament verses, and TGD will only show up in the New Testament.  Tapping the link will bring up the full defintion for the given strongs number.

The new "Analyze Verse" screen has a "Define" tab.  Tapping on any word in the current verse will look up the word in any installed dictionary.  It's very cool.

Sounds wonderful.

Now. What's keeping Apple?

I'm really enjoying using version 4.0. I love the notes and the automatic verse linking. I currently use the NKJV, but I would like to also add a Greek Dictionary. The postings I've seen so far seem to indicate that I need to have Strongs numbers. Is this the case?

If I'm using my NKJV and go to the Define tool, will I be able to see that word in the Greek Dictionary?

Thanks!

No, you can't do that with the NKJV. The Analyze Verse / Define tool just takes an English word (or phrase) and looks it up in any dictionary that's keyed by word (dictionaries such as ISBE, VINE, EBD, etc.) Typically, you'll use this for things like: getting background on a name in the Bible (like the name of one of the kings of Israel), or looking up theological words such as faith, or predestined, or sanctified. It has a lot of uses, but typically you're looking up words that get at the root meaning of a passage.

Handling Greek and Hebrew are different, though. We have strongs-based dictionaries that are keyed on strongs numbers (H1, H1259, H7559, or G345, G1029, etc.) Now, if you purchase one of these, you can always switch to it and look up a word, but that basically means tapping your way through to find a specific word, such as G1234. It's doable, but cumbersome.

The best way to use these tools is to start with a strongs-based Bible, such as NASS, KJVS, CWS, HOTS, or GWHS. In that case, you just tap a word and it brings up the strongs definition, then if you have any other strongs-based dictionaries installed (BDB, TGD, or KJC) they'll show up as links inside the definition, such as [BDB]. You can see how this works if you go to our page: Support / Video Tutorials and watch either the video on NASS or on CWS.

Thanks for the quick reply. From looking at the store, it looks like the KJVS is $20. Is there a cheaper Bible with Strongs? Seems odd that the KJV is free but the Strongs version is $20. When I add the Greek Dictionary, I'm going to end up spending more on that feature than I did on the NKJV Bible in the first place :ermm:

Is there a cheaper alternative I'm overlooking? Thanks!

Not really. The only Bibles we have with Strongs Numbers are: NASS, KJVS, GWHS, and HOTS. (GWHS is in Greek, HOTS is in Hebrew.) We also offer the CWS, which is the most comprehensive tool available, but that's also the most expensive.

The $20 price tag of the KJVS just reflects the amount of development work it took to put together all the strongs features, such as inline strong dictionary definitions, drill-down to root words, integration of the Thayer's and Brown-Driver-Briggs' and KJC information, instant [Find] feature that locates every usage of a strongs number throughout scripture with instant preview, and on and on. There's a tremendous amount of work in there.

OK, thanks. I figured it was something like that The KJVS sounds like quite a tool!
