I'm curious before I purchase the 4.0 NASS,

1) Does the 4.0 now do landscape?

2) Is there a way to turn off the display of the Strongs numbers?

3) Is there any way to see multiple translations (if purchased) side by side?  ie Greek?

Thanks

Yes, 4.0 does landscape throughout.

Yes, you can toggle strongs numbers on or off, or in "word mode".  Word mode just underlines each word that has a strongs number, and tapping that number reveals the number and definition.  (So, in summary, there are 3 modes:  NUMBERS, WORD, OFF.)

Yes, you can view any number of translations for a single verse on one screen at one time.  You can toggle which translations display, and there's a button to go to the next or previous verse (still displaying the translations you have chosen.)

I did end up purchasing the NASS and do love it.

One question or is it just me; when I scroll through the text it seems very chunky and not fluid-like like most other Apple apps.  It also takes a long time to switch to Landscape mode.

Also, I don't see how you can display two translations side by side as stated above.  Is that really possible?  If so, how?

p.S.  Nevermind, I see that under "Ananyze Verse"

I've own Olive Tree Bible Software, and Mantis Bible Software ... there are times when I want to use advantages of one over the other ...

But getting to my question ...

If I have several commentaries or Reference Notes sets ( currently I've only bought the NASB and ESV translations ) in my library,  Can I be reading from ANY translation, and access ANY reference note set or commentary, and the commentary automatically open to reveal notes at my current book/chapter/verse location that I was reading?

Are references in the commentaries hyper-linked to read them in the translation that is CURRENTLY ACTIVE? Also is there a back button to reverse the path that was traversed when one finally decides to return to the place they were originally reading from  before they left off to chase down commentary notes?

Just curious ... I'd like to settle on one Bible software program ... but right now there are strenghts for each of these two?

I do not think other versions are as good as these two ... But I have not deeply tried any others, and have only made purchases in these two software programs ....

Other thoughts anyone?

I too use both the mantis and olive tree programs. In the mantis, in the analyze verse feature I am able to access any comparison with all the bibles I have installed in the program as well as commentaries and dictionaries, if I am studying in one certain version, with the analyze verse feature, that gives me access to all other versions I have on that verse as well as commentaries and dictionaries that are installed. It is also not to hard to get back to the original book you were studying, although that part could be a little easier. If someone could combine all the features and content of both the mantis and olive tree programs, wow, that would be a dream come true for me.

I have only purchased Mantis (NASS) and love it.  I did see that Olive Tree has the DTS Bible Knowledge Commentary available.  That would be fantastic to add that to my on-line study!  (My Dad actually co-edited that commentary!)

In Mantis 4.0, there's an "Analyze Verse" screen that works like this:

I'm reading, say, the ESV Bible, and tap on a verse number, say for Genesis 1:1.

I choose "Analyze Verse".

Now, in the Analyze Verse section, "Compare" is highlighted and I see the ESV version of Genesis 1:1 at the top.  At the bottom I can individually open and close any combination of other versions that are installed.  (So I could view, say, ESV, NASB, MSG, and NKJV all on one screen.)  The selections you make are "sticky" so these items remain open/closed for the next verse you analyze.

Next, I tap on "Commentary" and I can open and close any installed commentary for Genesis 1:1.  If a commentary happens to reference another Bible verse, I can tap that reference to open it (in line, right inside the commentary) and it will display the ESV version of that verse (because the ESV is my currently selected Bible.)  Tapping the reference again closes that verse so I can continue reading the commentary.  While the verse is open, there's a link to jump to that verse in the ESV Bible, if I want to jump over there and read in context.

Next, I tap on "Define".  Here, again we have the ESV version of Genesis 1:1 at the top, and the list of installed dictionaries at the bottom.  Tapping on a word in the verse (say "heavens") will automatically look up that word in all the installed dictionaries, and again, I can open/close dictionaries individually.

Finally, there's a tap for "My Notes" where I can go to view and/or edit my personal notes on this verse.

At the top of the Analyze Verse screen are buttons that go forward and back one verse (to analyze the next verse, say) and a back button that returns to the ESV Bible where I was reading.

If I am using Analyze Verse and I view a version with footnotes, such as the NET Bible, the footnote will not work.

Is there any way that the footnotes can be made to work while in analyze verse?

I will add that to the development list.
