I am currently at v4.8.8 on an iPod Touch 3G. I've been using Mantis NIV for almost a year now. First off, i LOVE the flexibility of highlighting Mantis offers. . .this was the deal clincher for me. Most apps force you to highlight full verses, and make it a few 'clicks' to get there. I prefer to do certain words and phrases, and quickly. My main concern is with the accuracy of the touches within Mantis, especially when highlighting, but also when adding bookmarks or choosing books/chapters/verses in Grid Mode. There is a considerable lag when making selections sometimes. This is tolerable, but i thought it should be noted. It will be a full second or two before and response occurs after a tap. As far as highlighting, it is EXTREMELY difficult to choose a color, select the words/phrases i want, and 'X' out of the highlighting all together. Just about every time i go to choose Yellow on the far right it either chooses a different color, most often goes to History, or misses the color bar entirely and begins to highlight a word in the verse text above it. It's as if the touch response location isn't directly correlated to where i'm touching. . . and often very random where the response occurs. This is not a newbie-user issue. I've been dealing the the iPod Touch and iPhones for years, i can type pretty fast and get around my other apps with no issues like this. Again, i only use the NIV Bible only. . . i have no experience with any other version. Other than this, and a location memory bug that has a fix noted in v4.9. . . i love this app. Thanks. |

We will look into this -- and in a future update we're revamping the highlight tool a lot. But I just tried highlighting with 4.8.8 on my iPhone 4 and had no problems at all, and I don't see the lag either. Mantis seems to run a lot faster and smoother on the newer processors. As far as the "accuracy" goes with selecting a highlight color, could that be a problem with that area on your touchscreen? What if you turn the device sideways? Do you still then have a problem tapping certain highlight colors? |

Thanks for the reply. The accuracy issue doesn't happen at all in landscape mode. Interesting. I'm not able to recreate any of the accuracy issue with anything else though. I tried highlighting text all around the area in question (in landscape mode so I had access to the area) and couldn't get any glitches though. It was right on with everywhere I touched. |

Just purchased today (11/20/10). Also having trouble with highlighting. With the highlight tools on, touch a word, but it may highlight words around that word. Also, if I wish to highlight a thread of words and touch the first one then select another further down, it may highlight the entire verse or verses where the words occur. But if I touch the word that occurs last then touch the one that occurs before it, only those two words are highlighted. After reading the earlier posts, I tried landscape mode - same problem. |

Using the highlight tool, you need to tap the first word then the last word in the range of words you want to highlight. We have identified a problem, however, when highlighting words that have a [+] or * asterisk attached to them in certain volumes. We are fixing this in the upcoming 4.9.2 update. |

I'm also seeing a highlight problem with ESV. When I try to select a word in the first sentence of a paragraph I always get the whole sentence. Not so with my other volumes. |

Please let us know if you continue to see this problem in ESV after the 4.9.2 update comes out. |

I'm using 4.9.3 now and I see improvement but there are still problems with trying to highlight different words and not just in ESV. Many times when I try a word that is repeated in a passage and it give me a pop up screen to identify which one, it will work on the first occurrence or maybe also the second one but never more (IMMSMC). The word might be just "and". I had not been in the program all day until just now and when I launched it it blew up. I did the reset ( double button hold). That always helps but never lasts long enough. There must be some memory leak. I have a utility app that checks memory etc, it reads right now: Inactive 39.54 MB Active 46.18 Wire 49.77 Total used 135.5 Free. 29.34 Total. 165.10 These readings keep changing so they won' t add up. I am not sure which part is the most critical to all of this. I have seen the free equal 10+ after Mantis below up. If you care to instruct me I will try to document such. P.S. I had my first 32G 3G machine replaced last week. The power button broke and had dropped down into the body. It was a day one model. Let me know if I can help. |

To do extensive highlighting, at this time we suggest using the old highlight tool. Tap Tools, then tap the highlighter icon, select a color, then tap the first word you want to highlight then the last word. To highlight a single word, tap it twice. To erase highlighting, choose the white highlight color. |

The crash problem isn't a memory leak, per se, but rather a bug where the OS reclaims needed memory, but doesn't do it efficiently enough, leaving the current app without enough memory to continue. We can't fix problems with the OS, but we are working on reducing the memory requirements for Mantis, which will help a lot. |

I understand your constraint with the OS. I just downloaded 4.9.4 and will see how that plays out. Thanks |

Okay I have been trying this for the last 3 hrs. Now I remember why I like the new highlight feature better. The old way when using NASS turns off the Strongs underline to inactivate the highlighting. So then you have to hit more key strokes to get it back. I don't highlight all at once, so this is more time consuming. I also see again that the palite of color choices does not also always appear in landscape mode. So that make me flip to portrait to see them and then flip back. More time. This is why I like the newer way better. I still find it hard in NASS when expanding a word for the definition and then expanding [find] and opening multiple passages to copy just what I want out of all of that. **** (But don't get me wrong, this is where the power of Mantis lies and I love it for how it is pulling all of these passages together bases on the same Hebrew or Greek word. ***** |
