It sort of crashed when bookmarking something the other day, and it was in such a way that the data on the screen got stuck. Nothing I could do would change it. I had to reinstall, which meant all notes and bookmarks are now gone. Is there a way to not lose the data when forced to reinstall the program?

I'm not sure what happened with your install, but you should regularly back up your bookmarks, notes, and highlights via the Backup button in the bookmarks or notes screen so you can restore them if you need to.

Basel,

Sorry to hear about your loss... please setup your Mantis program to use the online backup feature for Notes, Bookmarks and highlights.  Click 'Settings' when on the 'read' tab, then enter your Mantis user information.  Now, click either 'Bookmarks' or 'Notes' and in the upper left you will see 'Backup'... tap that and then tap the large button on the screen that says 'Backup Notes, Bookmarks, & Highlights'.  You can restore these if lost and you can go online to view/edit.

It is still in Beta mode, but please give it a try...

- Adam.

Thank you. I back up my bookmarks, notes and hilights regularly now. Are all 3 backed up on the server? I only see the notes here when I sign into my account.

The reason I ask is, it's crashed again. This time It crashed when choosing a chapter in a book of the Bible. But interestingly enough, it gave the same error screen. It shows a chapter title in Deuteronomy and the verse title but there is no text. I wish I would have written it down. Instead I tried to reinstall without losing notes. My attempts have not been successful. Now it's stuck on the intro screen and I have to hold the button down to get out of the program. I must do a full reinstall of Mantis. I'm hoping not have to reinstall my whole ipod. I did that the last two times thinking I had to, but I might not have had to. If anyone has another solution, please let me know.

Thanks so much

I reinstalled and am thankful to see the notes, bookmarks, and hilights all restored :-)

Thanks

I found this thread and I'm having a similiar problem with bookmarking. I have bookmarks (all backed up) but for some reason they don't show at times. When this happens, the text doesn't show on the scriptures or the other interfaces. It's just white where the text should be. I've used this for some time with no issues so I'm wondering if it's the lates update??? I've uninstalled and reinstalled but it still does the same thing. Any suggestions?

Any chance you used an apostrophe in a bookmark name? My bookmark problems seemed to be caused by doing so. The apostrophe was even in a parent folder name of the folder where I had the problem. When I renamed the folder without the apostrophe my problems went away. The symtoms of the crash sound the same.

Same thing happened to me this morning. I was bookmarking and it crashed my iPhone so bad, I had to hook up to iTunes and resync. It continued to crash a lot for a while and still does occasionally. I noticed that I get a screen say for 1John 2 and the text is blank. If I try to go to 1 John 3, it crashes. I look for Bibles and don't see ANY, not even the KJV it came with. After rebooting my phone about 3 times it seems to be back. I have gone in and copied my notes from the website, but cannot copy my bookmarks. Since there is not a Mac stand alone version of Mantis, I cannot do much more than that. Mantis has become just about the ONLY version of the Bible I use anymore since it is SO nice to use. I have told all my friends about it and brag about it a lot, so please fix this.

This is fixed in the 4.0 version. The short-term fix is to remove any bookmark folders that have apostrophes in them, so you need to switch folders that are named "God's Love" to simply "Gods Love".

Yep that was the problem, I had Christ's in the folder name. Seems to be stable at this time. It looked like some times it lost the KJV text..... Anyway thanks for the GREAT application.

I also had the same problem that was fixed when I deleted the last bookmark file name that had an apostrophe in the title. :)

How does the online view/edit work? I need to find out if I have any backups.

If you are asking how do you see if you successfully backed up your notes/bookmarks: check the menu above "My Account" "My Notes Editor." It will show you your verse notes, but does not show your bookmarks. I believe that if you see you notes then it is pretty safe to say that your bookmarks are also backed up.
