I experience a lot of crashes on iPad, latest versions of all software when using the navigation selection at top of page. Occurs when selecting book/chapter/verse. When restarting program it does open to selected location. Does not occur when navigation within same book or when using "corner" navigation. Crash ocurrs about 20% of the time.

Do you think this might be related to low memory? You can test this by first rebooting, then see if the instances of crashes diminish. We will also look into this separately and see if we can figure out what's going on.

Anything is possible, iOS doesn't provide much information on memory outside of used and remaining flash memory. Would not be related to flash memory as half of iPAD is free. Whether it could be related to usable memory immediately available I don't know as to how iOS and the Mantis program deal with memory.
As an add on without starting another old discussion, regarding iPad app, the app is great as-is, I would just like to take advantage of the higher resolution capabilities.

There are two types of memory: storage memory (8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, etc.) and internal memory (also called "RAM" sometimes.) iPads can have differing amounts of storage memory, but all iPads, I think, have 512mb (megabytes, or 1/2GB) of internal memory. Normally, iOS will manage this memory well, but in many cases, available memory will drop down to a level that causes problems with many different apps, including Mantis (and especially Mantis, which takes a lot more memory than other apps because it's so complex.)

Rebooting the device clears all the available ram, which usually makes things run much better -- at least for a long while, until the memory gets low again. Either way, a reboot can't hurt.

To reboot your device, press the top button and the home button and keep holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears, then release both buttons.

I'm having a similar problem. Just loaded Mantis Bible Study and purchased NASB translation. Seeing issues mainly with use of "Tools". I can open the tool bar but choosing highlighter or calendar for daily reading often results in the app closing Typically the only background tasks running are the Kindle reader app and settings.

We've identified problems with the 3.x version of iOS particularly, so if you're running the older OS, you can update it to 4.2.1 (the latest) or wait for our 4.9.4 update (due out soon) and see if that helps.

I have the same issue as the OP and I believe Mantis should look into this. It is quite frustrating and if it is due to low memory errors then Mantis should see what the competition is doing differently. I also have 2 other Apps that I use only for this reason!

Mantis is the best because of the inline note and commentary feature and because of that I stick with mantis hoping that 1 day it will become more stable.

Olive Tree is getting tons of bells and whistles and I have never had a crash, ever. But every time I decide to make it my number 1 I really end up missing the inline feature so much.:crying:

Rebooting 2-3 times an hour isn't an option!

Help...

Mantis - you really need to get this crashing problem fixed. You have a nice Bible app, but folks are going to look elsewhere if this continues. Quit blaming the iOS and fix Mantis ... other apps do not have this problem.

I open NASS. Switch to NIV. Crash. Reopen Mantis. NIV opens. Switch back to NASS. OK. Try to switch back to NIV, or NKJV - crash. I have no other app that crashes like this.

On my iPad running Mantis 4.9.4 and iOS 4.2.1, I just opened NASS, and switched to NIV, then NASS, then NKJV, then a combination of all 3 for about 20 or 30 changes, and I cannot duplicate the crash.

Can you confirm you're running Mantis 4.9.4 on iOS 4.2.1, and if not, please let us know your configuration?

Also, are you switching versions using the bookshelf screen (tap the version button at the top left, then tap the desired version from the list of Bibles in the bookshelf?)

Any other information you can give us about your configuration would be helpful. Thanks!

burggraf - Thanks for responding and for attempting to duplicate the problem.

I am running 4.9.4

Based on other posts, I tried rebooting my iPad. I suppose it cleared the memory and Mantis did not crash when changing versions after that. As noted in other posts, we should not have to reboot, however.

I just tried changing versions using the button at top left and also the sliding menu bar on the right side. I had one crash - when using the menu bar on right side and switching to another version. Reopened Mantis and could not duplicate the crash thus far. I suppose if it happens repeatedly again, I will simply reboot and see if that corrects the problem.

I'm not sure what other info about my configuration would be helpful. I have nine versions, four commentaries, one media (Amer Bib Society Maps), and seven dictionaries.

Good Bible app, and I hope they continue to improve and add options.

So this sounds like a low-memory situation. That's very helpful. Not nearly as helpful as if it could be duplicated exactly (that makes fixing it easy) but still it helps.

At least we know where to concentrate our efforts inside the app!

I experience a lot of crashes on my iPad 2. The software is awesome outside of this. Yes it seems to be memory and usually happens if I try to add or view a note or commentary. Any of th inline content displays tend to crash it when memory might be low.

If you can duplicate this problem (even in low memory situations) please contact support and give us as much information as you can about the problem. This will help us to solve this permanently. Thanks!
