With 4.0, the Mantis team has made a wonderful application even better. However, I can't understand why in the world there is no option to change the background color? I really, really, REALLY want to use Mantis on my iPhone during church but I think a bright white screen is too distracting to others. So, I wind up using a competitor's app during services and Mantis the rest of the week. If nothing else, offer a "reverse" mode where the background is black and the text is white. An even better option would be to offer users the option of defining their own colors. This will let people have what works for them, especially those that are color blind. Please think about adding this feature in the next release. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

We've had the request before, and we're considering it. But here's why we can' just "reverse the colors" as some other programs do...

Mantis has a main text screen (black text on a white background.) But we also have 4 highlight colors, blue for links (i.e. verse numbers), green for personal notes, purple for translator's notes, a gray background for strongs numbers (with a darker gray for nested strongs numbers in the 4.1 version), etc.

So there's a lot more to it than just changing the background color. We'll have this feature eventually, once we figure out a good way to make it work, and look good.

I understand the challenges. But Bible Reader has this capability - in fact more control over the colors - and I love the fact that I can make the background a software beige. Just easier on my eyes. I use Accordance on my Mac and make heavy use of a similar feature. You could also let us set the highlight colors. But at least you have highlighting! Which is great and a primary reason I prefer Mantis over Bible Reader.

We'll definitely do it, I'm just saying it's a slightly bigger challenge for us because of all the features we have.

I newly downloaded this software and really like lot of features, including the full screen. I do feel being able to set own background is a critical feature. As how ease it is to the eye will affect how often I read Bible with this software.

What if in its first version which includes background changing, you (the developers) chose the background colour options, having 1. as is, 2. a light beige background or 3. dark grey background giving no other options.

It is a complex change - more than I know. Some people like me would love a dark grey or blue background with text being white. Others just want a light grey background keeping the text black.

A suggestion: By changing the strongs colours to another colour other than grey, you could make the background grey. you could even give a few background grey variations for people to choose from.

A suggestion: With a dark grey background and white text, you could still read the blue verse markers and asterisks, the strongs numbers light grey could stay the same, but maybe a little darker.

A suggestion: If the background was dark and the text white, in bookmarks and notes - you would only need to change the verse text to white then the quote from the verse could stay a light grey.

by the way, mantis rocks

It's great in 4.60 to have the ability to change background and font colors. However, to be honest the colors are too bright, especially to be used as a background color. Is it possible to add more subtle/lighter colors like parchment paper, sandy, beige, or tan color? Thanks!

If you create your own color scheme you can use any color you want. Custom HTML colors can be used like #FFFFFF for white and #000000 for black, or any combination of red, blue, and green.

I love the white background. For some reason I can read better with the white background. I not only use mantis to study with but also to prepare my sermons. I bought a seperate note app simply because the iPhones note app has a yellow type background which I can't read my notes off of from the pulpit. Having options is always nice though. Mantis just fits my style of study so perfectly that I haven't even used my multi thousand dollar accordance software in over 3 months!

For those looking for a parchment type background, try entering this HTML colour code: #FAFCE7
