I have an iTouch 2nd Gen. In the NIV Study Notes if you for example go tp verse/Gen/Intro, you get the introduction to Genesis. However, this is just a scroll through type text. In the intro there are sub headings like: Author and Date of Writing, Theme and Message, Literary Features etc. There is no way to directly go to these. In the Palm version there are (+) expandable plus signs to expand the contents and then you can go to the item. Once there you can go back to the expanded TOC. As it is now you are only able to scroll, scroll, scroll to the topic you want. Very inconvienient.
